Description

100% British Cheviot wrapped around a pure wool core to create a super chunky yarn without the weight or bulk. It's light and airy qualities come from the combed Cheviot tops being whipped around an ultra-thin pure wool core (at present this isn't British wool as we couldn't spin it fine enough...but we're working on it!)

The British Cheviot is fully traceable. The Cheviot gives a soft and crisp feel, whilst still being a strong and versatile yarn. This is a great natural yarn base which takes dyes well.

Details

  • Weight: Approx. Super chunky weight (chain ply)
  • Length: Approx. 51m/56yds per 50g
  • Tested on 8mm needles

FLEECE & NATURAL FIBRES

Our North Country Cheviot fleeces come from Maria and John's own Lake District flock and the Heatherlea Cheviots from George and Sabrina Ross who are crofters in the Highlands.

Processing

  • Fleece scoured in the UK
  • Processed into yarn in Italy

For this yarn we worked with a highly regarded Italian spinner to push the boundaries of Cheviot wool use, re-introducing the wonders of quality British wool to a European audience, and benefitting from their immense knowledge of fine yarn spinning. The mill shares our regenerative business values.

Dye Information

We worked with Becci and Markus at Riverknits to create this pastel collection, with our vague brief of 'a twist on summery pastels' they created this beautiful mix of colour pops. All hand-dyed in their studio based in Northamptonshire.

RiverKnits specialise in hand dyed colour, combining the traditional material of wool with original dyeing techniques to create exciting new ways of making. They have a strong focus on sustainable sourcing and natural fibres.

After Care

  • Hand wash only - we recommend a wool wash
  • Gently wash colours separately on first clean
  • Air dry flat to keep shape
